As part of an investigation against former Superintendent of Police Abhishek Dixit, several teams of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) carried out from early morning on Monday raids in the official residence of the Superintendent of Police on Old Bangalore Road and the house of P. Ramachandran, Sub-Inspector with the traffic wing at Bargur.

One team seized two kg of gold ornaments, 15 kg of silver articles and documents relating to land deals from the Sub-Inspector’s house. The ornaments were packed in small plastic bags and stored in a plastic drinking water container.

The ornaments were packed in plastic covers on which the names of those who “pledged” these were written. It was said that P. Ravi, brother of the Sub-Inspector, operated as a pawn broker in Bargur. The DVAC sleuths were also inquiring into the source of funds for the pawn broking business.

The raids were supervised by K.A. Senthil Velan, Superintendent of Police, DVAC, Western Zone, Coimbatore.

Summonsed by the DVAC, Mr. Dixit, now Commandant of the Tamil Nadu Commando Force near Chennai, rushed to Krishnagiri in the evening with his wife and children in his official car.

Cartons containing the items he had packed for shifting to Chennai, following his transfer, were being opened by the teams. DVAC officials said the searches would go on at least till noon on Tuesday. Searches were also on at four places in Mr. Dixit’s hometown of Kanpur. Some incriminating documents relating to acquisition of wealth were seized, the officials said.

The allegation against Mr. Dixit is that even after his transfer to Chennai, he had stayed on in Krishnagiri and effected 87 transfers. It was also alleged that the Sub-Inspector acted as an intermediary for the transfers.

After being Aide-de-Camp in Raj Bhavan, Mr. Dixit took charge as Superintendent of Police in Krishnagiri on December 26 last year and was relieved from that post on July 21 this year.
