Vaiko threatens hunger strike

Demands arrest of suspended Nanguneri police inspector

July 30, 2012 05:22 am | Updated 05:24 am IST - NAMAKKAL:

Marumalarchi Dravida Munetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko said he would go on a hunger strike along with party cadres on Monday in front of the Nanguneri taluk office in Tirunelveli district, seeking the dismissal and immediate arrest of police inspector Vijayakumar, who shot dead Vanamamalai of Marukaalkurichi in Tirunelveli district.

Addressing party members in Tiruchengode on Sunday, Mr. Vaiko alleged that the sand mafia in the State that was removing sand illegally from rivers earlier had now started quarrying sand from tanks, ponds, canals and other water bodies.

“State should take steps to put an end to it,” he said.
