The Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC) has asked consumers to make full use of grievance redressal forums throughout the State and the electricity ombudsman for redressing their grievances.
In a release, TNERC secretary S. Gunasekaran said that Electricity Act, 2003 had many provisions to ensure adequate quality of supply to consumers and the commission had been passing regulations. However, most of the consumers were not aware of the provisions.
This was reflected in the fact that only about 600 petitions were filed before the consumer grievance redressal forums throughout the State last year.
Considering that there were more than two crore consumers in the State, this showed they were not aware of the system.
Similarly, the number of appeals received by the ombudsman was around 60 per year.
Mr. Gunasekaran said that TNERC had fixed standards of performance to be achieved by Tangedco within a certain time frame such as new service connection to be effected within 30 days and defective meter replaced within 30 days.
These regulations had been finalised and gazetted and there was scope for the consumers to get their grievances redressed speedily by approaching these forums the details of which are available in white meter cards as well as on the websites of TNERC and Tangedco.
