After chairing a meeting to review preparation for the July-7 examination with the Collectors of nine southern districts here on Tuesday, Mr. Nataraj said that 47 per cent of the applicants were women. More number of women applicants were from Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Sivaganga and Kanyakumari districts. “We could get this data thanks to online application facility that we launched,” he said.

Commission secretary T. Udhayachandran said that the fact that 47 per cent those applying for an examination conducted by TNPSC being women was significant considering that only a little over 30 per cent of applicants used to be women in the past.

Mr. Nataraj also attributed to the online application facility for higher number of applications received.

Similarly, around 40 per cent of applications were received from the southern districts. Among them Madurai and Tirunelveli districts had higher number of applicants, Mr. Nataraj said.

Stating that the candidates could download their hall tickets online, he added that differently abled people would be allotted halls in the ground floor in all the centres. They would get all the help at the centres.

Mobile phones would strictly not be allowed in the centres. Besides, the TNPSC had made an arrangement to effectively check malpractices possible using advanced technologies. Examination centres would be videographed and online webcasting done so that officials could monitor happenings at the centres identified as sensitive ones.
