Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar on Monday held a meeting with district officials through videoconferencing and reviewed arrangements for the by-election to the Pudukottai Assembly constituency.

Mr. Praveen Kumar ascertained the total number of election booths and the strength of election officials drafted for polling duty. V. Kalaiarasi, District Collector, and Muthumari, Returning Officer, explained the arrangements.

As many as 1,095 officials have been given training in two phases.

A total of 20 candidates are in the fray.

Since each electronic voting machine can accommodate a maximum of 16 names of candidates, each booth will have two such machines.

R. Sudhakar, Superintendent of Police, explained the security plan. Additional personnel would be deployed in needy places.

Meanwhile, the flying squad personnel have registered a case against AIADMK MLA P. Ponnambalam for having affixed propaganda material carrying the image of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on his car, without obtaining permission from election officials.
