Refers to how it has been continuing to co-operate with BJP
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader L.K. Advani on Saturday described the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) as the “natural ally” of his party.
This, he said, was not only because it was earlier a part of the National Democratic Alliance government headed by the BJP at the Centre, but also because of “the way the AIADMK has been continuing to co-operate with us and helping us with no reservations.”
He was speaking at the 42 anniversary of Thuglak here. “We see Ms. Jayalalithaa (Tamil Nadu Chief Minister) and her party (AIADMK) as our natural ally because of the Central government's attitude to the non-Congress governments in the States.”
Referring to Ms. Jayalalithaa's speech at the National Development Council (NDC) meeting, he said she championed the cause of federalism and faulted the United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre for treating the State governments as “glorified municipal corporations.”
He recalled her saying that the Centre did not treat the States as “partners, leave alone as equal partners.” Besides, she had observed that the NDC meetings were “ritualistic' and “an exercise in futility,” he pointed out.
Mr. Advani thanked Ms. Jayalalithaa for her timely action in saving his life from a bomb planted near Madurai during his recent tour en route to Kerala. “What most touched me was that she said ‘It was providence which saved you. I would not have forgiven myself if something had happened to you'.”
Modi sees similarities
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who outlined the similarities between his State and Tamil Nadu and how the people of both States were contributing to the economy of each other and also the ancient links between the States, expressed the hope that under the leadership of Ms. Jayalalithaa Tamil Nadu would achieve remarkable progress.
He was happy to note that the people of Tamil Nadu were particularly severe in “punishing” the “corrupt”.
Cho Ramaswamy, Editor of Thuglak, said it was definite that the AIADMK would play a crucial role in the formation of the next government at the Centre.
“If at all there is going to be a government supported by the BJP (and not led by it), I would prefer that it helps Ms. Jayalalithaa become the Prime Minister,” he added.

“If at all there is going to be a government supported by the BJP (and not led by it), I would prefer that it helps Ms. Jayalalithaa become the Prime Minister...
I think this is a little too much to look for at this time. Jayalalitha has to prove she is different from Karunanidhi and show progress in addressing the problems of the state (for which the people of Tamilnadu overwhemingly elected her party).Law and order, public safety, corruption, infrastructure, unemployment are issues to be addressed.
Jeya Amma deserves to be the prime Minister of India to put an end to corruption, mockery, political madness and Congress regime's alleged human rights abuses.
Cho Ramasamy should come to reality rather than living in his own dream land. With the Price rise and the way she cheated in power, there is bleek chance of her winning polls next time.
Mr Cho Ramaswamy will be singing the praises of Ms Jayalalitha till he gets what he wants. He has found that confrontation will lead to political oblivion and hence the new avatar of promoting her to the position of PM. Ms Jayalalitha was vigilant and sacked the coterie headed by Ms. Sasikaala and shd should be doubly vigilant smart about the new fair-weather friend Mr Ramaswamy.
Jayalaithaa has been cherishing the wish to become PM or at least “select PM”.Earlier she depended on Mr.Swamy.Somehow he tumbled. She seems to be now depending upon Mr. Cho and Mr.Modi. May be her new advisor Mr. Cho must have also shown such a seed in her thought process. This is clear from his today’s speech. Every Tamilian will feel proud if such a thing happens. If Mr. Deva Gowda be the PM, why not Dr. Jayalalithaa? To become PM,she needs the support of either the BJP or the congress. She also needs to win all the 39 plus 1.Alternatively,to make her choice as the PM, AIADMK should have a sizable number; a minimum of 30 seats provided there is no national party with 125 seats or more. Now as things stands she / her party will get a maximum of 20 seats provided there is no crisis before the national election. The less the number of seats, the less the probability of she playing any role and the vice versa. Anyway aiming at the bigger role for her is nothing worng.
'Cho'Ramaswamy is a person well known for his satires. He has wrapped up
his preference of the next Prime Minister under some illusory conditions
that would make any one wonder whether it is his real opinion or just as
any of his usual satires!
The process of pulling up of socks for formation of National level alliance eyeing on the ensuing Parliament elections is on. The hand shake BJP shares gleefully with ADMK may earn political dividend. Are people so naive to take kindly the corruption BJP ministers are mired in? Can they not rate the saffron party, that is seen closely following Congress in the race of scams? The BJP alternative is no better to the ruling alliance as both are seen on the same pages. One hopes the AIADMK, that enjoys enviable popularity may not belie the expectations of the people who long for corrupt free governance. It leads to the logical conclusion of a third alternative with AIADMK playing a larger role.
It was not a surprise BJP conferred ally status to AIADMK.It was 'natural' because the other biggy is with Congress,BJP has nothing left, except to cling to AIADMK for State politics,The Unnatural here was Mr.Cho.,infact most unnatural, and he prefers Jaya to be PM!Its not a surpraise when a common man prefers some Politician over the other. But people like Cho when make their choice public, its surpraising.Cho,he is well known for his witty take on the Politics, who knows he wants the whole of India to taste the extreme under Jaya! That will make the entire India mentally strong enough to accept any ruler after that! This is the only logical reason that comes to my mind for his favour for Jaya!
BJP is seeking to ally with mercurial one-leader parties like
Jayalalitha's or Mamata Banerjee. It would end up compromising its
ideals. BJP should strengthen itself, ally only with parties accepting
Hindutva and not minority appeasement. Better to be a powerful, intact
and idealistic opposition than a ruling coalition catering to the whims
and fancies of ambitious allies.
A pure political meeting and truthful people representatives.
Cho's views are always balanced and appropriate to the current situation. He is always straight and to the point. This country has never seen such a person.
Madam Jayalalitha is the most courageous person in Indian politics today. She is intelligent and well experienced in statecraft with excellent communication skills. I reckon she would turn out to be a good PM, if BJP can wholeheartedly give her the majority support. However, from now on, she should groom an equally capable successor from her party.
History of Free India has proved that elevation of a Non-Congress CM of a state as P.M. of India has proved a big flop! Morarjee Desai's Govt.lasted for 2 years/4 months/4 days! Charan Singh's(on paper only) 0/5/16; V.P.Singh's 1/0/8; Deva Gowda's 0/10/20! So no non-congress CM need dream of becoming the PM of India! Hope Mr. Cho would wipe off his spectacles and see things clearly!
It seems that Cho Ramaswamy is back to comedian role. Good luck!
Most BJP leaders are against the possibility of Nitish Kumar occupying the top post after 2014 as NDA candidate if allies object to present top contenders Advani,Modi while others like sushma, jaitley who lack popular support are no where in race.It seems both Advani,Modi are planning to prop up jayalalitha as alternative candidate for PM post as she is closer to nationalistic ideology of BJP unlike Nitish. But such a move should be welcomed as Tamil Nadu is only state that has not seen even one PM from its soil.
strong alliance is needed to defeat the congress misrule. it is a good beginning towards that and all the i will appreciate if the CPM and CPI join hands with BJP and AIADMK to fight the next general elections and the next PM choice will be Narendra Modi.
This is the apt time for jaya to move to centre. She is only capable lady to destroy both congress and DMK once for all. My best wishes for corruption free government.
Amma will do something for India. She is fully matured in politics.
I would think it's a tad too early to be giving Ms.Jayalalithaa this kind of hype, and Cho has certainly gone a step too far in such a hurried declaration. As much as I am glad the DMK is out of power, I second Mr.Sarangapni Ragunathan in that the AIADMK's triumph is merely a sign of people wanting change, and Jayalalithaa's rule has the task of proving that it can make legitimate progress in addressing the problems in the state.
It is interesting to note that Mr. Cho has proposed Ms. Jayalalithaa for the PM post. If Mr Cho's wish comes true, given her strong position on issues like sharing of Cauveri waters between TN and Karnataka, Mullaiperiyar dam between TN and Kerala, retrieving the Katchateevu from Sri Lanka etc, the impact of her becoming PM would be greatly felt. But on the other side, even now her ministers are treated like slaves and they routinely fall on her feet to please her and they are disposed off at her whims and her fancies. She lamented at NDC meeting that the Centre did not treat the States as "partners, leave alone as equal partners." But, let her first treat her ministerial colleagues with some dignity not as less than human beings. It is going to be interesting to see how her cabinet ministers would behave in front of her if indeed, she would become the Prime Minister of India.
Amongst the crowd of BJP and other leaders the one who stands like a bright torch by his sheer performance is Narendra Modi. Yes, there may be many accusations against him, but he has thus far proved that he is a capable leader and administrator. The current state of Gujarat is a prime example of what he can achieve. There is no comparison when it comes to Ms J. So for, she has done nothing of value except to throw the government money for the benefit of electoral mass. She has this disproportionate asset case dangling over her head like the Damocles sword. Her CV is full of holes and ridden with corruption. She is unfit till such time she can prove otherwise. As for Cho, it is high time he retired from being a journalist. Recommending Ms J for the prime ministership is like putting the cart before the horse!
It is a surprise to hear from cho that a person who cannot tolerate the good deeds of the previous government mainly for the welfare of the people and shows hatred towards the opposition and treats the opposition as a villain can become the PM. If she open heartily accepts and recognizes whatever the good deeds then only i think she will be considered for the post.
I am aghast your reporter failed to be balanced he should have reported that CHO castigated Hindu for descending to the level of nakkeeran by translating their slanderous yellow piece of Journalism to 'enable' those who did not read it be poisoned.
why Cho Ramaswamy did leave the post of president to be vacant? why don't he himself choose to become president ? Yes, good dream to Cho, AIADMK,ordinary gross root worker.
this anniversary programme is well planned to bring BJP and AIADMK together either by former or by latter. the people of TN in particular and India in gross, should not forgot that., JJ has done gross corruption in her first govt., and did most of the stubborn acts in her second term by deposing the Govt. staffs etc., What now she is doing is to get some votes for LokSabha., after that she will start her avatars..
A very good suggestion, Modi & Jaya are decisive leaders in their own might and its good for the Country that any one of them replaces this utterly corrupt UPA.
It's a well known fact that Jayalalithaa has always nursed PM ambitions and wants to head any non congress alliance government at center. But she should keep in mind that PM post is simply not her cup of tea.In this coalition era the one who respects coalition partners, respects others views and can carry every one along can alone warm the top post.On all these accounts JJ is a miserable failure with her haughty temperament and sheer arrogance.Although she is a very good administrator she needs to change her style if wants to realize her dream.
The way jayalalitha has been cosying upto BJP its clear that she has sensed a change at the center after 2014 elections.JJ being a pragmatist has realized that the third front is an elusive concept and it has no takers among the people and will remain a pipe dream. There is strong yearning for change from the corrupt, inefficient UPA government and BJP is readying itself for it.If there is any regional party outside NDA which is closer in ideology to BJP its AIADMK and JJ could be playing key role in future.
There is no doubt there is going to be a change at the centre in 2014. All 4 names floated here have equal chances of making it.If amma wins 40/40 then she can move to Delhi as such a mandate only will indicate peoples desire for her leadership at centre. So she has to work 24*7 for people of Tamilnadu in the next 12-14 months. She will. Already we observe change in her style of functioning. Let us wish clean and efficient govt at Tamilnadu first and then will follow the reward.
I dont think there is any thing wrong in Mr. Cho's comments. In the event of a Non-BJP, Non Congress Governments, she is the best among the available lot. She has excellent communication skills, and high patriotism. She knows many languages. As for Tamil Nadu, though she had inherited a poor financial kitty, she is trying to fulfill the promises made in the election manifesto. Her determination in solving issues with courage and conviction and grasp of difficult problems will help her managing the office of the PM with ease. She will be far better than Deve Gowda, Gujral and V P Singh. She is no doubt a PM material.
Let Mr.Cho prefer whatever or whoever he wants....but it is his responsibility to clear the doubt of a common man given the respect he commanded all these days as a Neutral Journalist. Is he a Political Journalist or a Politician now? He recommending Jaya for PM,followed by comments in Tuglak criticizing 'The Hindu' was almost like a AIADMK sympathizer's reaction! Hope he won't fall on the legs of Jaya as most party MLA,MPs and Ministers do, may be he won't mind,BUT WE DO, given the respect he commended, of course not today, but till yesterday as a journalist!
In Tamilnadu, there is no mass support for BJP. Even a single constituency either MP or MLA, the BJP could win. In other words, BJP is considered a Hindutuva party by the people of Tamilnadu. The vote bank of AIADMK is of the backward and downtrodden people. If AIADMK joins with BJP, it would certainly for the benefit of BJP alone. People like Cho Ramasamy and others are trying to misguide Ms. Jayalalithaa. She should not commit the same error done earlier.
Mr Jaya Prakash, THE HINDU commands utmost respect amongst the entire
media and political spectrum for its high standards and intellectual
moorings which few in indian media possess.Even CHO has stated many a
times that while he has high regards for THE HINDU for the way it
presents news his main grouse is that its some what left oriented in
approach.Even many readers of THE HINDU are some what upset for it.
Surprising to see an established journalist like Mr.Cho to compare Modi
and Jayalalitha on equal scale. Modi, despite his horror past, has
proved as a Chief minister. He has delivered and proved even to his
opposition about good governance. Jayalalitha on the other hand is no
way closer and her actions after getting elected only proves "bad habits seldom die". Her tossing off the newly constructed assembly, tinkering with cable television only proves that she is heading another kazhagam to give a good fight to DMK. God bless Mr.Cho.
I had the opportunity to watch/listen to Mr. Cho Ramasamy's speech that was covered on TV. His words about our CM (MS Jayalalitha) were very carefully chosen. He said she is a patriot, knowledgeable, has the charisma, can understand the issues quick, these are the qualities required at this time. Given the choice we have as our leaders/politicians she definitely is a better one!
