The Tamil Nadu government, which has filed cases against 156 protesters against the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant, should take stern action against them for taking law into their own hands, Union Minister of State for Planning and Parliamentary Affairs V. Narayanasamy said on Saturday.
The State government was cooperating with the Centre in the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant issue for making the first unit operational immediately, he told reporters at the Chennai airport.
Mr. Narayanasamy said if the unit becomes operational the State would get an additional 975 MW of power, which would help the State to overcome the power crisis. The third round of talks between the experts committee formed by both the State and the Centre and the protesters held on December 15, had failed.
The protesters wanted the project to be delayed, hence they asked unnecessary questions, he charged.
Already the Union Home Ministry had ordered for an enquiry into the issue of protesters receiving foreign. The Ministry had sent a notice demanding how they received the funds, Mr Narayanasamy added.
