Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Thursday strongly condemned the recent petrol price hike and urged the Union government to withdraw it immediately as it cannot be accepted by anyone.
In a press release, she said that due to wrong economic policies and administrative inefficiencies of the Centre, the prices of all the products had skyrocketed. Against this background, the Centre was hiking the petroleum prices on a regular basis, without bothering about the impact it had on the poor and downtrodden.
Last July, the Central government increased the prices of diesel, domestic gas and kerosene and on September 15, petrol prices increased by Rs.2.61 a litre. Within two months of the hike, the Centre has once again considerably increased the rate of petrol by Rs.1.82 a litre, she said. “The hike has affected the two-wheeler using poor and middle-class people. Instead of taking steps to contain inflation, the Centre is taking steps continuously to increase the price of products. The present hike is like adding insult to the injury,” she said.
