The Madras High Court on Thursday stayed for eight weeks, the trial of the case relating to the murder of Sankararaman, manager of the Varadarajaperumal Temple, Kancheepuram, in September 2004. The Kanchi Sankaracharya, Sri Jayendra Saraswati, has been cited as an accused in the case.
Passing the interim order on a writ petition, Justice K. Suguna ordered notice of motion (admission). Trial in the case is on in the Sessions Court in Puducherry.
In his petition, P. Sundararajan, an advocate, said that tapes containing telephonic conversation among some persons, in which money given and an assurance that the balance sum would be paid in connection with the case judgment, had emerged.
Similar to the leak of some videotapes earlier, the latest tapes contained conference calls recorded by one of the parties to the discussions and put in the public domain.
