Sri Lankan tourists’ attack: security tightened

Security has been tightened at places frequented by tourists following the reported attack on a group of Sri Lankans here recently, a top police official said on Saturday.

“We have increased the security following the attack,” Police Commissioner J.K. Tripathy said.

Three activists belonging to Naam Thamizhar, a pro-Eeelam outfit, were arrested under various IPC sections, in connection with the incident which occurred on August 3, police said.

Police are maintaining strict vigil at places frequented by Sri Lankan tourists.

Security has also been strengthened at the Maha Bodhi Society where Sri Lankan pilgrims are staying, sources said.

The ‘Q’ branch (dealing with extremist cases) of Chennai Police is overseeing security arrangements, police said, adding, the Sri Lankan tourists had already left for Sri Lanka.
