Says they are not ready to file cases against AIADMK activists
DMK president M. Karunanidhi on Wednesday accused the police of blowing out of proportion land grabbing complaints against his party workers while seeking to play the role of mediators in similar complaints against ruling party workers.
In a statement here, he cited media reports that the police were under pressure to handle complaints on land grabbing because most of the complainants had motives. “Though they are alleging that they were forced to sell their properties, it is said that their motive is to get more money from the buyers now. The police are not able to handle such complaints.”
Mr. Karunanidhi alleged that the police were not ready to file cases against AIADMK workers. “Instead they are playing the role of mediators at the instruction of AIADMK Ministers and prevailing upon land owners to withdraw their complaints.”
Aid for refugees
Reacting to the government's announcement increasing the monthly assistance for Sri Lankan Tamil refugees, Mr. Karunanidhi welcomed the scheme, but pointed out that more schemes and programmes were unveiled during his rule for the refugees.
The hike in assistance would cost only an additional Rs.55.44 lakh per month, he said.
Recalling various assistances offered to the Sri Lankan Tamils, including the despatch of provisions worth Rs.10.6 crore to Sri Lanka during the last phase of the war, Mr. Karunanidhi said that his government had decided to improve basic amenities in the refugee camps at a cost of Rs.12 crore.
“Subsequently, based on the reports of the ministers who visited the camps, the State government allotted Rs.100 crore. One can compare these schemes with the announcement of the AIADMK government and come to a conclusion on who has done more for the Sri Lankan refugees,” Mr. Karunanidhi said.

Comments:
Is there one bit of useful information in the statements? The man seems to justify land grabbing and is only peeved that some one is acting to punish the culprits.
According to Mr.Karunanidhi land grabbing is okay as long as you are in power is to be considered as a perk of Office. Hence the land grab complaints against his party men should be treated as minor traffic infringements. I expected a senior leader of the nation like Karunanidhi to come down heavily on his own party men and tackling the runing party on a moral platform.
Tamil Nadu needs more action than politicking . It is a pity that the talent of the young populace are not made full use for the betterment of the state in stead of the blame game of corrupt politician. Whatever scam it is the making of the politicians of both divides. Especially those who helm whatever party they represent . It's alway 'witch hunting' of the government of the day against that of yesterday . How to progress tangibly in today's globalized world when each one is at the throat of the other to grab the little available resources for survival.
DMK govt allotted more money but how much of that allotted money reached the SriLankan Tamils?
During the Tamilnadu election campaign period I was visiting a friend in Srirangam while watching the campaign speeches in my hotel room at the Senthoor Residency. I was very much amazed by her eloquence and observed that she would win. She did. However it must needs to say that a person elected by the people at all costs ought to prevail upon the need to serve by projecting her machinery as to how the socio-economic upliftment mattters of the people be solved systematically. The quality of life of Tamilians is in a state of alarming attrition of culture and of values unique to Tamil as seen in Purananooru. On the contrary, Ms. Jayalalitha has taken on to the character of a female Heathcliffe. The concatanation of FIRs upon Hansraj Saxena and other DMK leaders confirms her as a character of destruction. As a Malaysian hailing from Thanjavur with a legacy of 1000 years ruling Taminadu,it must needs to say she has lot to learn from the Nayakars vis-a-vis Rani Mangammal.
Repeatedly calling this as vendetta is just irresponsible reporting without knowing the situation on the ground. If this was really vendetta, then the DMKs call for agitation against false cases earlier this week would have been a huge success. On the contrary, except for some DMK workers, people did not bother about this since many of the cases are true. some of them were filed when DMK was in power but obviously police did not act. even if 50% of the cases are true, the action is still worth it. There was a huge groundswell of antagonism against DMK due to such type of land grabbing indulged by DMK ministers, district secretaries, councillors, etc in addition to other misdeeds. Jayalalitha had also made this action as part of her election promises. Any other time, I would have agreed this is vendetta but definitely not this time since DMK leaders deserve every bit of the stick that they are getting .
Whatever you guys saying now, These will repeat in 2016. I am sure on it. wait and see.
I am reminded of an astute comment made by Cho Ramaswamy some years back, when asked asked about the rampant corruption in Tamilnadu. His response, "Karunanidhi is the father of corruption, and Jayalalitha its mother!"
As an Indian I feel ashamed that two such obviously intelligent politicians cannot clean up the administrative machinery in their state! I can however understand their plight. Having attracted and nurtured a generation of corrupt followers and hangers on, neither leader can really do anything to stop the rot without jeopardising their own positions. So, we can expect more and more scams as the game of musical chairs is watched by a hapless electorate. Unless a higher authority steps in with an iron hand. I hope the Supreme Court will now direct its energies to putting the fear of God into the corrupt.
People are the Highest authority in a Democratic Constitution. It's the People's money that is being misused by People's servants or government employees (ALL including PM, CM, MLA & Ministers). If this is realized and understood by everyone in the state and the country, nothing can be done by the government service employees without anyone knowing it. The changes and service mindset should happen from top to the bottom and bottom to top as well in the government hierarchy. And it is People's responsibility now to make the changes necessary to reform our government. If People question against the government officials who are not doing their duty, things will overturn soon.
