Former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on Wednesday said scientists would able to predict earthquakes accurately in another 10 years.

Scientists were now able to predict natural disasters such as cyclone, tsunami and others almost accurately, and methods to develop prediction of earthquake were being developed in various laboratories around the world, Dr. Kalam said.

Interacting with students of the Sitalakshmi Ramaswamy College for Women in Tiruchi, he said women were increasingly playing important roles in various spheres.

Adding that to get to the top they only needed self confidence and courage, he pointed out that it was three women scientists who successfully tracked the recently launched Geo Satellite at Hasan near Bangalore.

He said the teachers should allow students to pose more and more questions and be creative in the class room atmosphere. The teachers should win the respect of the students by their knowledge and brilliance, and be role models to the students, he said.
