NHRC to be moved to end bias against CBSE students

MALAPPURAM: A talents meet organised by Malappuram Sahodaya in association with The Hindu STEP (Standardised Test of English Proficiency) at St. Joseph’s Senior Secondary School, Puthanangadi, on Saturday underscored the importance of inculcating the values of social commitment along with excellence in education.

Participating as guests at the function, P.K. Kunhalikutty, MP, and K.K. Abid Husain Thangal, MLA, exhorted students to be conscious of their commitment to society. “Whatever be the level of success you achieve, you should uphold higher values rooted in compassion and love towards fellow beings. Never turn a blind eye to poverty and unemployment, which still continue to be the two vexing problems in our country,” said Prof. Thangal.

He also called upon students to make the best use of opportunities. “You are living in a world where you have everything at your fingertips. Make good use of such resources,” he added.

Presiding over the function, Malappuram Sahodaya president M. Abdul Nazar tried to assuage fears raised by certain quarters over the future of students of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) stream. He said Sahodaya would soon approach the National Child Rights Commission and the National Human Rights Commission seeking an end to the bias against CBSE students.

Mr. Kunhalikutty gave away the Sahodaya Edu-Excellence Awards to Peevees Model School, Nilambur, Airport Senior Secondary School, Karipur, and MES Engineering College Campus School, Kuttippuram, for outstanding performance in the CBSE Class 12 examinations.

Prof. Thangal gave away the Sahodaya Merit Award to J. Lakshmi of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Malappuram, for topping the CBSE Class 12 examination in the commerce stream at the national level. District panchayat vice president Sakeena Pulpadan released the Malappuram Sahodaya Aptitude Test (MSAT) brochure.

Prof. Thangal also released The Hindu STEP brochure by handing over a copy to Ms. Pulpadan.

The Hindu regional manager N.V. Balamurali and STEP coordinator Chandrashekar R. gave away the awards to subject toppers in CBSE examinations.

As many as 780 students who scored A1 in all subjects of CBSE Class 10 examinations and 180 students who scored A1 in Class 12 examinations were felicitated at the function. Sahodaya general secretary M. Jouhar, senior officials Jobin Sebastian, C.K. Sasikala, P. Nisar Khan, P.A.M. Abdul Khader, and P. Saithalikoya, and Malappuram Navodaya School principal P. Sreelekha spoke.

St. Joseph’s School principal Fr. Jibin Vazhakkaliyil welcomed the gathering. MSAT exam controller A. Sayed proposed a vote of thanks.
