Security to be stepped up at Writers' Building

March 10, 2010 10:34 pm | Updated 10:34 pm IST - KOLKATA:

The West Bengal government is examining measures to step up the security at the Writers' Building, Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen said. This follows changing threat perceptions to the city and the State leading to the government's decision to revamp security at the seat of the government.

National Security Guards, who visited the building after the 26/11 attacks, too had suggested changes in the security system.

Infiltration by militants?

Although the State police has remained tight-lipped on the matter, there are reports that information has been received about infiltration into the city and its suburbs by Left wing extremists.

Briefing reporters at the Secretariat after two meetings held between senior police officials of the city police and State police, Mr. Sen said that various measures were being contemplated in this regard.
