Resolve dispute amicably, court tells Fernandes' kin

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday suggested to the wife and son of the former Union Minister, George Fernandes, and his brothers to sit down and settle the dispute over his property amicably.

Justice V.K. Shali made the suggestion while hearing arguments by counsel for the two parties on a suit filed by the brothers of Mr. George Fernandes, Richard Fernandes and Michael Fernandes, seeking a permanent restraint on his wife Leila Kabir and son Sean from taking Mr. Fernandes out of Delhi.

Through an interim order, the court has already restrained the wife-son duo from taking Mr. Fernandes out of Delhi, dismissing their plea that Mr. Fernandes was required to be taken to the U.S. for treatment.

Earlier, counsel for Ms. Kabir submitted that the brothers of Mr. Fernandes, who stayed in Bangalore and who were not in frequent contact with him, came into the picture when they came to know about his property worth crores of rupees.

But counsel for the two brothers submitted that Ms. Kabir remained separated from Mr. Fernandes for more than two decades.

Mr. Fernandes did not require their assistance earlier, as he was hale and hearty.

The matter will come up for hearing on Thursday.
