Pune: A special CBI court on Friday directed the investigating officer to provide security to a 40-year-old woman who has accused Congress leader Rohit Tilak (37) of rape.
Judge A.K. Patil admitted the woman’s petition challenging the interim anticipatory bail granted to Mr. Tilak and scheduled the next hearing for July 31.
The woman had filed a case of rape and unnatural sex against Tilak and on July 17 he was booked under Sections 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural sex), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) 504, 506 (criminal intimidation) and 507 (criminal intimidation by anonymous communication) of the Indian Penal Code. Last Friday a special court granted him interim anticipatory bail. The complainant accused Tilak of having sex with her by claiming to be unmarried. She said Tilak subjected her to “emotional blackmail”, repeatedly assaulted her and extorted ₹58 lakh from her.
In her submission before the court, the complainant alleged that Tilak had “completely misled” the court during his bail hearing and attempted to destroy medical evidence in collusion with the police.
Advocate Tosif Shaikh, the complainant’s lawyer, said she has submitted voice and video-recorded evidence and several pages of WhatsApp conversations.
Earlier this week, she lodged another complaint with Visrambaug Wada Police alleging that unidentified men had threatened to pour acid on her. She said two motorcycle-borne men intercepted her car and threatened to pour a bottle of acid on her if she did not withdraw her complaint.
The Congress leader is a descendant of Bal Gangadar Tilak and the nephew of Mukta Tilak, Pune Mayor and senior BJP leader. Tilak told the court that the complainant had lodged a false case against him because she was sacked in April from an organisation run by him.
