The prime accused in the Paul Muthoot George murder case, “Kaari” Satheesh, told the media here on Wednesday that it was he who committed the crime.
Talking to presspersons just before being taken to the court, Satheesh looked at police officers accompanying him as if for permission and when they nodded, he said: “It is I who did it.”
At the same time, Sujith and Binu, who were arrested from Changanassery on Wednesday and were allegedly part of the 22-member gang which whom George is said to have had the fatal argument on Saturday, were in tears right from the moment the trio were presented before the media.
Though they tried their best to cover their faces, policemen forced them to turn towards the cameras, which they did reluctantly, though they never stopped crying. Satheesh, in the meanwhile, appeared composed and did exactly what he was told to do by the police — posing, walking and talking.
The three were then taken to the Ramankary Judicial Magistrate Court to be remanded.
Earlier in the day, a police team recovered the knife allegedly used for the crime from the residence of Satheesh at Payipad near Changanassery.
According to E. Divakaran, Superintendent of Police, Alappuzha, applications to get the remanded into police custody were being prepared and would be submitted to the court in two days.
Meanwhile, various teams, guided from the top by Vinson M. Paul, Inspector-General of Police (Ernakulam Range), monitored by Mr. Divakaran and supervised by Deputy Superintendent of Police K.M. Tomy were on the job to trace the remaining accused. On the field, assisting teams led by the circle inspectors of Pulinkunnu, Alappuzha
