No post-poll agreement other than those with the Trinamool Congress for the formation of civic bodies in West Bengal will be tolerated, the State leadership of the Congress said here on Thursday.
“On no grounds will we tolerate the Communist party of India (Marxist)-led Left Front forming the board by creating a rift between the Congress and Trinamool Congress in the civic bodies that have thrown up a fractured mandate,” Manus Bhunia, leader of the Congress Legislature Party told journalists.
The party will take strict action against any councillor or party worker who come to any other agreement, he added.
Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee and Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who is also president of the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee, have agreed that the two parties will form the board in the civic bodies that have a hung verdict, Mr. Bhunia said.
Though the two parties were unable to agree on an electoral alliance for the May 30 civic elections, Mr. Bhunia said he was confident that they will contest the 2011 Assembly polls together.
While the Trinamool secured a majority in 27 civic bodies, the Congress was able to do so in seven.
