Stating that acute water shortage is prevailing in their village for the last one year, villagers of Jeeva Nagar in Modakurchi block came to the Collectorate to submit their Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) here on Monday.

They said that over 150 families were residing in the area for many years.

They have to depend on nearby villages for water, and purchase from the open market.

It results in hardship as they cannot spend money for water.

They said that they had submitted many petitions to the district administration, block development officer and at the Kanagapuram panchayat office.

No steps were taken so far, they added. Villagers said that the BDO had promised to solve the drinking water problem when they hoisted black flag atop their houses last month.

They said that water was being supplied in lorries to villages in Kanagapuram panchayats which is insufficient. They urged the administration to provide river water by laying pipelines.
