Fire was gutted at a plastic manufacturing unit at an industrial area in Vasai township of the district, officials said today.

No casualty was reported in the mishap, while four workers stranded in fire at the 3G Plastic company’s factory were rescued, they said.

The fire occurred at around 11 p.m. late last night, Vasai-Virar Municipal Commissioner Chief Fire Officer Dileep Palav said.

The fire officials, after receiving a call, rushed to the spot and saw the factory in Manish Industrial Estate up in flames with all plastic and cloth burning, he said.

The firemen were able to rescue four workers stranded on the first floor of the premises, which was totally gutted in the blaze, he said.

Fire fighters from Vasai and Bhayander were pressed into service to douse the flames. The fire was controlled at around 2.30 a.m after hectic efforts.

The exact cause of fire was yet to be ascertained, Mr. Palav said.

VVMC Commissioner Satish Lokhande, and other senior civic and police officials were present at the site to supervise the rescue work.

On getting news of the fire, several people in the area gathered near the industrial estate and police had a tough time keeping the crowd at bay.
