The Coimbatore Corporation will soon set in motion the process to acquire land for implementing the Pilloor III drinking water supply project. The corporation officials had a meeting in this regard with engineers from the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board, which is implementing the project.
The over ₹1,000 crore project is to supply nearly 320 million litres a day to the city. The TWAD Board has proposed to dig collection wells in River Bhavani bed near Mettupalayam, treat and convey the treated water to a main storage reservoir.
Corporation will draw water from the main storage reservoir to other tanks for distribution.
Corporation sources said that for laying pipeline for over 35 km from the collection well in Marudur, the corporation would acquire land. The work for identification of the land to be acquired was on. Of the 174.4 acre to be acquired, the TWAD Board had identified 136 acre and of those 50 acre belonged to the government and the rest to private land owners. The latter fell under 322 survey numbers.
Once the Board completed the exercise, the corporation would send the proposal to the district administration for land acquisition, the sources added.
