January 13, 2013 01:34 am | Updated 01:34 am IST - Mumbai:

The Mumbai Police on Saturday claimed to have cracked the case of obscene and threatening calls made to actor Pooja Bhatt by arresting Ashish Suvarnkar (25), who works in a private telecom company’s store in Pune.

“We produced him in the court on Saturday. Since it is a bailable offence, he has been granted bail. But we are looking into the reasons behind the crime,” Pratap Dighavkar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone IX), told The Hindu .

Police officials said that according to preliminary investigation, it seems that the accused wanted to harass the actor and had no other intention. He had thus called her and her father Mahesh Bhatt.

He got their numbers from an acquaintance.

Ms. Bhatt registered a complaint with the Bandra police on January 9, alleging that she was receiving threatening and abusive calls late night from a person who seemed to be in an inebriated condition.

The police had registered a case against unknown person under Sections 507 and 509 of the Indian Penal Code.
