Security reviewed ahead of Gujarat poll

Police chiefs of Rajasthan and Gujarat discussed security arrangements ahead of the coming Assembly elections in Gujarat. Harish Chandra Meena, Director-General of Police, Rajasthan, and his Gujarat counterpart, Chittaranjan Singh, along with officials of the Border Security Force (BSF), assembled in Jodhpur at the BSF headquarters on Saturday to review the security arrangements.

Since Rajasthan and Gujarat share a substantial part of their borders, trans-border illicit activities ahead of and during the elections could prove to be a cause for concern for both the States.

A large part of north and north-western Gujarat is contiguous with the Jodhpur and Udaipur divisions of Rajasthan.

“The meeting was held in line with directions from the Election Commission of India. Even before the EC directions, the DGP had held a meeting in Udaipur to review security arrangements,” Ashok Sampatram, Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Rajasthan, told The Hindu .

“Since Jodhpur is another division where some districts share a border with Gujarat, a meeting between the police chiefs of both the States is being held there,” said Mr. Sampatram.
