December 25, 2012 03:19 am | Updated December 04, 2021 11:15 pm IST - Mumbai:

A 24-year-old mentally challenged girl was raped by her relatives, a father-son duo, in a small village in Maharashtra’s Beed district, police have said. The father was arrested on Monday. The son is absconding.

“The victim’s mother registered a complaint with us that Chintaman Kalyan Jadhav (45) and Ganesh Chintaman Jadhav (22) raped the girl on two occasions in the past three days. We registered a case under sections 376 (rape) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of a common intention) of the Indian Penal Code,” a police official told The-Hindu .

He said the victim stayed in Lonighat village of Neglur post with her family. “According to the complaint, Ganesh raped the victim at their house on December 23. Before that, on December 18, Chintaman Jadhav had raped her. The mother alleged that the accused took advantage of the fact that her daughter is mentally challenged, and took her to their house. Both the families stay in the same neighbourhood,” the police official said.

“There has been a feud between the two families for the past few years. We suspect that the victim was raped to teach the victim’s family a lesson,” Beed Superintendent of Police Dattatray Mandlik told TheHindu .
