Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray has blamed ‘Bihari’ migrants for the recent gang-rape in Delhi. He was speaking at a programme organised at Goregaon in suburban Mumbai on Saturday night.
“All are talking about the Delhi gang-rape, but no one is asking who did this. Nobody’s asking from where these men came. I have been slapped with so many cases, but nobody is saying the fact that all these rapists are from Bihar,” he said.
The Maharashtra unit of the Congress strongly criticised Mr. Thackeray’s statement. “Instead of holding a particular State responsible for heinous acts like rape, he should control his activists, which will bring down the crime rate in Maharashtra. His recent statement is an example of his irresponsibility and shallow thinking,” said Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Sachin Sawant.
“Ironically, an activist of the MNS’ transport wing was arrested last month on the allegation of raping a minor girl. In 2009, four MNS activists were arrested on the charge of raping a 13-year-old house maid,” he said. He alleged that Mr. Thackeray was trying to divert the attention of people from the wrongdoings of his own party members.
