The Goregaon police here have arrested a 50-year-old man who allegedly raped his 14-year-old mentally challenged niece.
The matter came to light when a local hospital, where the girl was taken for a check-up, sent a letter to the police informing them that she is three months pregnant. Based on this report and the victim’s statement, Mulchand Gupta was arrested on Tuesday evening, and remanded to five-day police custody by a local court on Wednesday.
According to a police official, the accused, on three occasions, lured the girl with her favourite fruits and chocolates when she was alone in the house and raped her. He also threatened her and said he would stop giving her the chocolates if she told anyone about the incident.
