She threatens to “slap” “uncivil” photojournalists jostling for space at an event
For the second time in four days, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee lost her cool in public. This time her ire was directed at photojournalists whom she threatened to “slap,” calling them “uncivil” during a visit to “Matir Utsav” (Festival of the Soil) at Panagarh in Bardhaman district on Saturday.
Footage beamed by some local television channels on Sunday showed Ms. Banerjee at a stall at the festival. “I will give you a slap… You uncivil lot,” she said, angry with photojournalists jostling for space there.
The incident that evoked strong reactions from across the political spectrum came three days after she had chastised a police official in her security staff, saying “he should be whipped.”
She was upset at having had to wait for her car after a visit to the 37 Kolkata Book Fair on February 6.
For State Congress’ Pradip Bhattacharya, such outbursts of Ms. Banerjee were a “disease” whose “cure” he was not sure of.
“If the people of West Bengal know of such a cure, I will appeal to them to provide the medicine to her… Otherwise it could make things difficult,” he told The Hindu.
Senior leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and member of its central committee Mohd. Salim said the Chief Minister’s remark at the fair, as well as the one directed at her security staff last week, “betrayed a feudal attitude and a tendency towards authoritarianism.”

We are fully confused about the priority of the TMC Govt. in W.
Bengal. The C.M. is busy in painting pictures (The theme is as
complicated as the functioning of her Govt.) As we all know, the
priority of this Govt. should have been to provide a strong and
politics free administration along with development of agriculture and
fisheries in Bengal along with the development of the minority
community, the worst affected community regarding development as per
Dr. Sachhar commission. Regarding agriculture, you are every day
crying over the issue that the Govt. is penniless and the Central
Govt. is non-lenient regarding the price of fertilizer and diesel,
however you have got the money to spend over the clubs and festivals,
which seems to be a whooping amount of around 750 Crores in 5 years,
which could have been used as subsidy for fertilizer per annum as 150
Crores? Regarding the minorities, are you aware that what % of them
fully depends upon agriculture? Add the public money you are planning
to pay the Imam Sahebs and Muajjims for next five year and this
subsidy could have been raised to 175 crores per annum? The people of
Bangla relish the diet of Machh-Bhat to the extent of madness and your
farmers have to run from door to door to get the price of paddy they
produce? The State of Andhra Pradesh has taken the responsibility of
filling the fish-plate of your State? Are you guys are so incapable
that you have to depend upon other States to fill your Stomach?
Please remember one thing that people have voted you to power against
the misrule of the earlier Govt and you are showing your complacency
“that you have completed all the work required for the State which you
promised to do in next five years”? How can you fix the bar at so
lower level? It seems you are participating in the Olympics with a
Kalighat pada level of Sports and is happy for participation only?
Winning the Medal is neither your aim nor you wished to make any
effort for the same.
With the functioning of your Govt. one thing is very clear that the
CPI (M) need not spend a penny to win the next assembly election due
to the great governance by the gang of clowns running the Govt.
Mamata Banerji does appear to think she is a queen of pre-Magna Carta days and that she can and should treat all people around her as her personal slaves. She should somehow be woken up from this dream or should be treated for her mental problems that manifest themselves in her behaviour. Perhaps, the treatment should start with what she suggested should be done to the policeman who was't there with her car the moment she came out after a visit to the 37 Kolkata International Book Fair. Yes, she “should be whipped” for "foul mouthing" and other misbehaviour.
You have stated that She was upset at having had to wait for her car
after a visit to the 37 Kolkata Book Fair. What will be her condition if
she has to come to Mumbai and catch a local train?
Due to incompetent governments, people in India have gotten used to doing things as they please with no regards for any one and they feel that they are not answerable to anyone and they have no regards for law and order. specially they fell that if a crime is committed they will not be punished. when someone like Mamata Benerjee tries to introduce discipline people cry foul.
There are anger management courses offered by psychologists in many countries, presumably such courses are also available in Calcutta, but the patient has to recognise the problem first and agree to a period of counselling.
Uncivilized! is this the parivartan that Bengal was promised?
