At a time when the Congress government in Haryana is under attack for a spate of gang-rapes, party president and United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi flew into this district on Tuesday and met the mother of a 16-year-old girl who immolated herself after being assaulted by two persons.
Soon after reaching the district, Ms. Gandhi met the mother of the victim and assured all help to the family. The girl, in her statement to the area magistrate, had narrated how she was assaulted. She allegedly doused herself with kerosene and set herself alight. She was taken to a Rohtak hospital.
After the girl died on Saturday, her mother threatened to follow suit if the perpetrators of the crime were not brought to book.
Ms. Gandhi expressed outrage at the gruesome crimes against women in the State and elsewhere, and declared that the guilty would be “severely punished’’ and justice would be done to the family.
The Congress president, later at Sachha Khera in Narwana Town, denounced such acts and called for strict action against the perpetrators of such a heinous crime.

I am happy at the wave of moves at least with sympathy bestowed upon the rarest rape victim.it is very poignant to see such incidents are increasing in the state and in the entire country. In this case what adda to the callous nature was that all that happened with the support of a women.
I feel immensely pity at the girl whose dreams prematurely shattered for the heinous nature of a bunch of perverts. The girl, her family and everyone related her are to bear the brunt of the great tragedy. So I feel all the involved should be given severest punishments and the government too can open an women grievance addressing forum throughout the country.Because what we can observe of late is that cases against women are on the high increase. They need help to save themselves from being victimised to heinous acts.
It is high time that there should be a change in the attitude of people towards fair sex.
All the rapists should be hanged mercilessly in front of the victim's house. The punishment should be carried out during the day with prior announcement for people to gather & witness.
Even with best intentions, Sonia Gandhi may not be able to ensure
justice to the rape victim. The justice system record is convicting
rapists is bad.
As per National Crime Bureau report, only 25% of the rapists get
convicted. The rest 75% go free.
Till date, as per National Crime Bureau report, about 1,75,000 women
got raped under Manmohan Singh's 9 year rule. By the time Mr. Singh
completes his 10 year rule, about 2,00,000 women would have been raped
under his rule. The problem is not the high number of rapes. Crime
happens in every society. The problem with Indian justice system is
the low conviction rate.
The reasons for this is our criminal justice system is completely
broken. For example, rape victims/family are usually threatened to
withdraw cases. Police is not trained to do investigations. The laws
need changes.
Justice Malimath committee made wonderful recommendations to fix our
criminal justice system. Unfortunately, Congress govt did nothing
about it for 9 years.
What about Sukanya Devi Rape Case?.Is Sonia Gandhi have same stand on that also??
Yes madam! We fully agree that severest punishment should be given to
the guilty of gang rapists. How about also speak out on punishing the
gang of politicians in collusion with crony capitalists gang raping the
Bharath with impunity and leaders shamelessly justifying it on
technicalities!
Sonia has never shown such concern for rape victims till now. Now she wants to divert attention from her son-in-law's ill-gotten wealth.
Dear Mrs.Gandhi, despite showing scripted concerns, you should have taken some firm action against the head of your government in the state. There were 11 rape cases in a month. Rather than taking firm steps to stop crimes against women, your CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda was busy in politicising the rape cases while saying that girls have been raped as a part of the conspiracy to malign the government. What a shame. May god give you (Sonia Gandhi) some wisdom to act.
They must be given the severest punishment and done as soon as possible.
Also orders should be given to treat all rape cases in India with
priority as there are thousands of cases pending.
The accused, whether rich or powerful in India must be dealt with a very
firm hand.
Anyone trying to influence a case or bribe officials must be exposed
immediately
