I did not provoke Nagas, says actor

December 25, 2012 02:25 am | Updated November 16, 2021 10:00 pm IST - IMPHAL:

Manipur actor Momoko Nongmaithem, who was allegedly beaten up and molested by an NSCN (IM) leader, has denied the charge that she had provoked the Nagas resulting in the assault.

The Film Forum Manipur, the Manipur State Sumang Lila Council and several organisations had been demanding the arrest of R.P. Livingstone. The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) had claimed that Livingstone, upset by the action of the actor that provoked the Nagas, beat her up. It is not known what exactly she did at the music programme on December 18 that invited the wrath.

Talking to journalists on Sunday night, Ms. Nongmaithem termed the NSCN (IM) charge a mere fabrication. She regretted that a baseless charge was made against her.

Though the Film Forum and the Sumang Lila Council had announced the suspension of a general strike till December 26, their protest continued on Monday affecting normal life.
