Technical fault may have led to U.P. accident: police
Four persons were killed and over two dozen injured when five bogies of the Howrah-Dehra Dun Doon Express capsized and three bogies jumped the track near the Mehrawan station in Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. The accident occurred around 1.20 p.m.
The accident site, which comes under the Sarai Khwaja police station area in Jaunpur, is about 260 km from Lucknow and 70 km from Varanasi.
Inspector-General of Police (Law and Order) Badri Prasad Singh told reporters in Lucknow that four persons were killed and 35 injured, 20 of them seriously. The injured were admitted to the Jaunpur district hospital.
Police officials ruled out the possibility of sabotage.
The IG said considering that the engine and some bogies broke away from the rest of the train, prima facie it appeared that technical fault led to the accident.
Sources in the railways said coach numbers S-4, S-5, S-6, S-7 and SE-1 overturned, while three bogies, including the SLR coach, jumped the track but stood still. Reports from Jaunpur, quoting eyewitness accounts, said wheels of many coaches were broken.
Relief trains from Varanasi and Lucknow reached the Mehrawan station for taking the passengers to their destination. The IG said rescue operations had been launched by railway, police and administrative officials. People from nearby villages also joined in the endeavour.

My hearty condolence to the victims and their family.
It is very painful to hear about such accidents. Hope the railway will implement new technologies to ensure the safety. I think it all happened due to lack of proper inspection. Supervision should be generalized it should not focus on main stations. A small negligence may become a big disaster for the society. Material lost can be replaced but human being cannot be replace lost is for the society and for the family society will get another person but the family can't replace. I have no confidence that any of the politicians will do something but God will do and I have that confidence. India has unity even though we are holding different cultural back grounds. But our politicians are not having even the shadow of unity. I hope India’s Democracy is the license for politicians to do anything and I have no confidence that it is going to change.
Being an Indian I never feel proud to say that India has a good Democratic politics.
care must be taken for railway safeguards for passangers
this is most vulnerable case one should never appreciate this is all because of didi (bengal) she unnecessary removed some eho proposed the budget highlighting the security
We must share to with kit and kins whose loving family members lost in
this tragic accident. As a remedial measures, at least one member of
those killed and seriously injured should get job in Railway. Those
injured must get full treatment and at least indemnity for the period
of their being unable to work.
This train route is crowed between Varansi, Junpur and Lucknow. The
doubling of railway track is at snails pace. It must be done in
electrifying way.
Seriously, the great Indian Railways can print on every ticket this line: " This train either may derail or may collide any time before reach its destination" or "Destination NOT reachable". In case of detrail, Railways minister announces Ex-Gratia and please provide emergency contact number. Thanks, Kumar
oh god.....
Are the authorities sleeping should not they wake up atleast now
The price we pay for coalition politics.Safety is jeopardized.Fiscal discipline is not even
attempted.More serious accidents are bound to happen as even primary maintenance of
track, coaches, wagons is not undertaken.Signalling and communications are not
upgraded.Vacancies are not filled up leading to overworking and fatigue of staff. In any other
responsible society those in authority and responsible will be held accountable.Laws of the
land must prescribe for prosecution of such irresponsible politicians aka as ministers. The
prime minister is responsible for the fast and near irreversible deterioration of IndianRailways
as he is responsible for so many ills afflicting the country.Dr ManMohan Singh will go down
in our country's history as the worst, and most ineffective Prime minister.Even the state of the
nation's economy proves the hollowness of the claim that he is a renowned economist.Even
at this late hour he will be doing a great service to the nation by resigning forthwith.
thanks god we dont have high speed rails. I do believe that the railway should increase the fare but do adopt better safety devices / practices in railways. I do believe this is a high time the government invest in public safety instead of working on helping other nations. charity begins at home.
Now I have seriously lost hope. Cant believe we can get this bad and have 2 consecutive accidents over a period of 10 days on the "great" Indian railways. Public must boycott Railways for a short period to convey the message of Safety. I know its difficult, but we may have to do it.
I appeal to Union Rly. Minister to visit one railway station each day, interact with workmen and devise ways to improve the performance. Also, railway minister should preferably travel by rail than by air to gain public confidence.
Mr. Roy, kill everybody and then start the improvement of the railways.
