Passengers on a Patna-bound train got a cruel shock on the festive occasion of Chhath puja when four coaches of the 13202 Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) (Mumbai)-Rajendranagar Terminal Express (Patna) derailed between Bhadaura and Gahmar stations of Danapur division along the Bihar-UP border on Monday morning.
The derailment took place at 10.12 a.m. There were no casualties or injured passengers, an official press note said.
Among the four affected coaches, all the wheels of one sleeper coach and one parcel van derailed, and four wheels each of one pantry car and one three-tier air-conditioned coach derailed.
After the incident, the up line from Patna to Mughalsarai was cleared for movement of trains. A special passenger train of eight coaches was arranged from Mughalsarai station to convey the stranded passengers to Patna. The relief train left for Patna at 1.58 p.m., nearly four hours after the incident. A medical van was also rushed to the site.
The cause of the derailment is still not known. East Central Railway spokesperson Amitabh Prabhakar told The Hindu that a team of concerned personnel and officers had gone to the site to conduct a probe.
The incident affected the train routes on Monday. The Railway authorities cancelled three Delhi-bound trains and diverted two trains– to Islampur and Guwahati. The authorities also set up helpline numbers for Patna, Danapur, Mughalsarai and Hajipur.
