Bomb scare at Howrah station

November 08, 2010 01:52 am | Updated 01:52 am IST - KOLKATA:

A piece of unclaimed baggage at the busy Howrah railway station here triggered a bomb scare on Sunday. A search yielded no explosives.

At 4.40 p.m., an unclaimed bag was found on the platform immediately after the departure of the Rampuhat-bound Vishwa Bharati Fast Passenger train, said Samir Goswami, official spokesperson for the Eastern Railway.

Sniffer dogs and a team from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) rushed to the site. On examining the bag, they discovered a tiffin box and other items, but no explosives, Mr. Goswami added.

Train services were not affected, he said.
