But a probe was not done as there was no complaint of wrongdoing, says government
The bungalow of the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Mayawati, here is back in the news after the Akhilesh Yadav government disclosed in the Assembly on Thursday that Rs. 86.56 crore was spent on its construction and renovation when her Bahujan Samaj Party ruled the State from 2007 to March 2012.
Another Rs. 20.15 lakh was spent on its maintenance. But a probe was not conducted since there was no complaint of financial irregularities. And the money spent was not audited either, the government said.
To a question from Ravidas Mehrotra of the Samajwadi Party, Minister of State for Protocol Abhishek Mishra said that “from 2007 to 2012, Rs. 8,656.20 lakh [Rs. 86.56 crore] was spent on the construction works of 13A, Mall Avenue bungalow of the former Chief Minister.” The Power Maintenance Zone-2 spent Rs.11.49 lakh and the Civil Maintenance Zone-2 spent Rs.8.66 lakh on maintenance works.
As no complaint of irregularities was received, Mr. Mishra said, a probe was not done. And it would not be possible to comment on points of irregularities because the expenditure was not audited.
Irrigation Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav said the government would re-acquire the irrigation land at Noida transferred to private builders during the Mayawati regime.
He was also critical of the demolition of Parikalp Bhawan, which housed the office of the Irrigation Department, and the colony, meant for the Department staff, — spread over 21,923.92 square metres — in Lucknow for building Buddha Vihar. The initial estimate of Rs. 80 crore for Buddha Vihar was revised to Rs. 448 crore.
Presenting the Irrigation Budget for 2012-13, Mr. Shivpal Singh Yadav said that during the previous regime, irrigation land was handed over to builders after the land use pattern was changed. “The deal caused the exchequer a loss of Rs. 2,642 crore,” he said, blaming the then Chairman of Noida Authority and vowing to punish the guilty officers.

A party for so called Dalits !! with such a rich leader? And the ruling congress keep eyes closed?!SP a competitor of BSP joins hands with SP for president election?! May God save India.Life in India goes on for last 60 years, the same way.........and perhaps through all generations of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, present and future.
Can we make her pay for all the damage. We keep hearing news about corruption in every place but no useful news about anyone paying up or being in Jail for the money they took..Can the media also suggest at the end - How to help public open a case..or atleast give link to petition or something like that. For all the corruption Hindu has reported why cant you get creative - a special section called corruption - create a lookup..search by politicians and govt officials with no scam yet reported, 2g scam, housing scam, athletics scam, transportation scam - link a geni tree with their family members names, photos. We become so used to listening to this..nothing matters any more..even if some one loots whole of India..How about having a petition for a rule - any private residence in India cannot exceed 3000 Sq ft. Isn't that enough for a person that too in a populous place like India.
why should not this money be recovered from her ?
The palace will not be a palace, when the people start a revolution against corruption like the ones that swept the middle east. Reminds me of Marie Antoinette!
It is difficult to understand how Mayawathi earned so much income legally. When she contested for the election in UP which led her to the position of Chief Minister she must have declared her wealth. If this wealth is quite lower than that of the value of her new house and other assets in possession now, the extra properties she earned by illegal ways should be taken over by the government. When we have many poor people in UP how a politician can live in such a fabulous house the annual maintenance itself cost lakhs and lakhs of Rupees.
why don't media shows any picture of Netaji's House of Saifai and also don't show any justification of need of international stadium there. It is a land acquiring policy of both parties. Rahul Gandhi was saying Goondan ki party and now begging support for presidentship from same leadership.
We had lost all hope from any political party as far as UP was concerned. Akhilesh, on the contrary, does seem a bit promising as far as the education and the infrastructure is concerned. I just hope that the Noida Authorities are brought to the book, a detailed probe done on the expenditure by the Mayawati government and the results published to the public.
This is how our India has been dragged back and becoming full of poverty.Where's the chance to survive poor, if the money is piling up at only one or two bags.these things are leading to deprived conditions in such a way that only the men who has status along with money can live in India and no one else.
When government is not ready to build a single room for several roadsiders, it had spent several crores for a single person's shelter. This situation prevails not only in UP,but also in other states. Every development of India's future is hindered by such doings.
what will happen with the public money she has spent on her bunglow? will she be asked to give it back or it will go to her just like anything ? what is the legal structure to get the money back, if there is any. can we stop such politicians to waste money in a country where where millions would have been given food and medicine with this money. Indeed india is the biggest and most inefficient democracy where judiciary is just for the name sake and a mock spectator of the wrong doings.
