Brazilian film director and journalist Oscar Maron Filho, who was in Goa to attend the on-going International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2011, died at the Goa Medical College hospital where he was rushed after he suffered a massive cardiac arrest on Sunday afternoon. He was 56.

Mr. Filho suddenly collapsed in his chair while participating in an ‘Open Forum' programme at the 42nd IFFI venue on Sunday.

Couldn't be revived

Addressing a press conference at the IFFI Media Centre, IFFI Director Shankar Mohan said that he was rushed to the hospital where the doctors tried their best to revive him.

The IFFI organisers decided to stop music in the Inox courtyard, the main venue and cancelled the red carpet event scheduled for film personalities, as a mark of respect for the deceased.

Homage

A minute's silence was observed at 8 p.m. in all the screening halls of the IFFI to pay homage to the deceased. Mr. Mohan said that they are already in touch with the Brazilian embassy.

Unfortunate

Manoj Srivastava, Chief Executive Officer of the Entertainment Society of Goa, the IFFI nodal agency, said the death was unfortunate.

This was the first incident of its kind at the IFFI, he said.
