In yet another shocking reminder of the routine violence suffered by women, an eight-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly raped and murdered in Bihar’s Saharsa district. The body was found in a canal on Tuesday morning, a day after she went missing from home.
The incident took place in the remote village of Belwara Punarwas, situated at a distance from the Kosi river. The child was from the Paswan community and belonged to a family of labourers. District hospital sources confirmed to The Hindu that the post mortem found evidence of rape.
“Around 6 p.m., my daughter had gone to my brother’s chicken coop to call him home,” the girl’s father told The Hindu on the phone.
“The place is located around half-a-kilometre from our house. She gave the message to him and started to return home. My brother told her to go ahead and that he would follow suit. The pathway to the coop is a proper road with houses on either side. I don’t know what happened on the way,” he said.
The police have so far registered a case of rape, murder and causing disappearance of evidence against unknown persons. Saharsa SP Ajit Kumar Satyarthi told The Hindu that the police were “sure” the crime has been committed by someone from the village itself.
“We suspect rape. Since this is an inside job, she could have been murdered lest she named her assaulter,” Mr. Satyarthi said.
The girl’s mother was inconsolable. “She ate, she went out; she was all of eight,” cried her mother on the phone.
“I was born in this village and grew up here. But I have never witnessed such an incident. She was not a grown woman; she was just a child. She was the oldest of my four children,” the father said.
The victim’s uncle said no top official had come to visit the family. “Only one inspector came to investigate. If someone is raped in Delhi, the nation is outraged. If someone is raped here, no one knows about it.”

Someone inform pradhanmantriji, the greatest threat to India's security is the collective body of India's men.
People who are against the Sc/Sts prevention of atrocities act 1989
must think twice before taking the issue . Everywhere violent against
Dalits is going on. Recently in Tamil Nadu a Dalit boy was murdered to
fall in love with the girl of caste Hindus.
People in India are under passion (not totally). How this happens is
under research. Man who not only suffer their preach in sex but have a
tendency to kill brutally .We suspect the developed nations because they
have technologies which may control people .
The statement made by the victim's uncle should be a wake up call. Not
just Delhi culprits but also these men as well be hanged till death.
Another heinous crime against an innocent child.
It would be interesting to see how officialdom, the electronic media and the public
react to this case and the extent of condemnation and outrage it invokes. My
prediction: this case will even receive fewer comments from the Hindus's readers, let
alone justice to the family and prosecution of the criminals.
Sad, truly sad.
There was absolutely no need of using D-word.If her communal background
was the reason anywhere then it should be mentioned in other paragraphs
but not in headline. In this case depending on present knowledge I don't
think that is case.
Yes whatever happened is sad and heart breaking. Criminals should get
proper/strict/severe punishment.
Where is morality, people?
Patna high court should take immediate initiative in this case and order to probe the matter infront of high lable police officer as Delhi high court has taken an action for Dehli bus gang rape.
I want to give thanks to The Hindu news paper for covering the same. Two different action should not be taken in one kind of case ie. Delhi agitation & Bihar. This type of offence also occures in rural area but not taken into consideration before senior police officer and in parliament too. An act should be passed to curb this type of henios crime and allow capital punishment for the culprites. Specail fast track court should be established for hearing the cases in the shortest period.
Now humanity is no longer a part human being...i can feel the end is near...
i just ask to the govt. why such type of heinous crimes are commit in
our society or country? This is because of our rule and regulations which
are provided for us are very weak.Culprits have no any fear of govt, police or any law which are provided for us.They made defamatory remarks
against our law and constitution.Govt. only posture that we are doing
this or that finally culprit come out of the jail. so first of all
govt. should make such type of law so that no one try to do such type
of heinous work.
Thousands of women and children are raped everyday but hardly it ever
surfaces. This is the bitter reality of 'our great indian culture'. I do
not think I am proud of being an Indian anymore.
