November 04, 2009 01:46 am | Updated 01:46 am IST - GANDHINAGAR:

Vashrambhai Khorani, who was elected to the Gujarat Assembly on the Bharatiya Janata Party ticket recently, died on Tuesday following a heart attack.

Khorani won the Chotila seat in Surendranagar district in the Saurashtra region in the by-election held a couple of months ago. Six other seats had fallen vacant due to the election to the Lok Sabha of sitting Congress and BJP MLAs.

Chotila, however, had fallen vacant last year due to the death of Congress MLA Popat Jhinjhariya.

Mr. Khorani, who was attending a public function in his constituency, complained of acute chest pain. He was rushed to a hospital in Rajkot, where he died an hour later.

Chief Minister Narendra Modi, State Congress president Siddharth Patel, Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Shaktisinh Gohil and other leaders expressed their condolences at Mr. Khorani’s sudden demise.
