The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), a coalition partner in the Congress-led Government, on Saturday rushed to the rescue of its beleaguered legislator and former Tourism Minister Mickky Pacheco who is presently in police remand.

Minister for Civil Supplies Jose Philip D'Souza, who was recently appointed Goa unit president of NCP, in a statement here on Saturday, took strong exception to the way the NCP MLA Pacheco was dragged into the controversy in the suicidal death of Nadia Torrado.”

While making it clear that the NCP welcomed a thorough investigation of the charges levelled by the police against Mr. Pacheco, the party requested Chief Minister Digambar Kamat to see to it that investigations are carried out in an impartial manner so that the investigation is not dragged upon and the MLA is not unnecessarily kept in the custody.

“The NCP feels confident that Mr. Pacheco will render all cooperation to the police to expeditiously complete the investigation so the truth is made to prevail without any harassment to him,” the statement said.
