Pune: A two-and-a-half-year-old girl, who was kidnapped on Saturday night, was found murdered in Dhayari, Pune, on Sunday.

After the girl went missing from near her house close to a farm in Kudale Mala, her parents, who are daily wage labourers, filed a missing person complaint, said an officer from Sinhagad Road police station.

Some residents living in the vicinity of the farm spotted the body nearly 500 metres from her house. “Prima facie, it seems that the girl was strangled as there are marks on her neck,” said the officer.

A case of kidnapping and murder has been registered under the Indian Penal Code.

Asked if the child was sexually assaulted, Shivaji Pawar, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Swargate division, said it is yet to be ascertained as the medical report is awaited. Investigations are under way.
