Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Thursday voiced her disapproval of Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde’s remarks that Hindu fundamentalist groups were conducting terror camps, saying he made the statement in “haste” and should have left it to the courts to take a decision.
“Mr. Shinde holds an important position in the government and the issue relates to his department. There are several cases pending in courts on terrorism. If he had any facts, he should have placed them before courts and left it to the judiciary to give a decision. But he was hasty in making his comments,” she said at a press conference.
The statement had “agitated” Hindus and “angered” them. All religions should be respected and statements that were not based on facts and that hurt the sentiments, especially of Hindus, should be avoided.
