Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Wednesday termed the killing of CRPF jawans in the Naxal attack in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district as “unfortunate and a cowardly act.”

“The brutal attack carried out by the Naxalites cannot be termed as justified at any cost,” Ms. Mayawati said in a condolence message.

More than two dozen CRPF jawans hailing from the state were killed in the Naxalite attack on Tuesday.

The chief minister said that the state government was with the families of martyrs.

Naxalites killed 76 CRPF personnel after ambushing them in the thick Mukrana forests of Dantewada by triggering blasts and then opening indiscriminate fire.
