Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Kodikunnil Suresh warned of strong action against those recruiting agencies that cheat jobseekers by assuring decent placements abroad. Addressing a meet-the-press programme organised by the Kollam Press Club here on Friday, he said instances of jobseekers getting cheated were on the rise.

The Union government was of the view that those recruited abroad by agencies should get the salary shown in the agreement. Mr. Suresh said one of his priorities would be to find solutions to the problems faced by workers in the unorganised sectors.

He called for better employee-employer relationship in the country. The unfortunate incident that took place in the Maruti-Suzuki plant should not be repeated anywhere. On its part, the government will initiate measures to ensure that such incidents did not happen again.

The Union Labour Ministry was of the opinion that the minimum EPF pension be raised to Rs.1,000.
