Popular Malayalam actor Jagathy Sreekumar was seriously injured in a road accident at Panambra near the Calicut University at Thenhipalam in Malappuram district early on Saturday.
The police said that Jagathy, as he is known among his fans, sustained multiple fractures and injuries on his head, chest, and abdomen and also had a minor cut on his liver. The car in which he was travelling rammed into a median while negotiating a dangerous curve on the National Highway No. 17 at around 5.45 a.m.
The driver of the car also suffered injuries in the accident, the police said. Mr. Sreekumar and his driver were admitted to intensive care unit of the Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences in Kozhikode city. A team of doctors attending Jagathy has subjected him to an emergency surgery.
He is out of danger but his condition was critical. His was a case of polytrauma, a spokesman of the hospital said.
The injured actor and his driver were brought to the hospital from the accident site in another car. He was conscious at that time but soon his condition worsened. He was then put on a ventilator, he said.
Mr. Sreekumar has acted in more than 1,100 Malayalam films especially in comedy roles. He has won the State government’s award in different categories four times. He paired with actor Mohanlal in hit movies like Thalavattam and Kilukkam.

accountable for all the road developments.Kerala -Pls listen ; There
should be absolute safety on the roads and honest police / traffic
police patrolling and penalising the drivers who ignore the strict
traffic rules .Overspeeding especially has to be controlled and the
errant drivers to be booked.Drivers under the influence of alchohol to
be put behind the bars , their licence revoked and vehicle impounded .

Kerala's road conditions are very poor. Politial leaders are very proud about NH-47 as 4 lines. They are cheating the people creating 2 lines in one side, total 4 lines without middle road barrier. Most of the accident is happened from opposit direction. Everywhere roads have big bends, tars are damaged and slow driving, Destination of 50Km we need 3Hours journey time. If you observe the public sector of Kerala, will under stand the development is very slow comparing the private sector. For good example Goverment facilities like Hospitals, Roads, Electricity supply, water supply, Education, employment, they all are very poor, The responsibility for all these are in the sholder of Keral Congress Party and Communist Marsist party, they ruled Kerala for long time.

It should be examined whether the road median to which the car hit was scientifically designed. There is a tendency in the government departments to violate the codes and rules and do things according to the whims and fancies of some officers... If the road median was constructed against the rules someone must answer

It is high time that Kerala has got wide dual carriage way roads. Roads are narrow one way with several accidents hapening. The petty politics in acquiring land for the expansion should stop taking into consideration the safety of the road users. if need be a presidential order for land acquisitions to avoid litigation. Also while constructing fly overs do not create mountains in fron of the houses by land filling and ensure it is on pillars to the lowest level to have an open atmospher for people who are staying on either side of the road/flyovers.
