Kerala to send team to Ethiopia

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy promised a visiting Ethiopian delegation here on Tuesday that the State would send an official team to Ethiopia in view of the interest expressed by the delegation in replicating the women’s empowerment programmes of Kerala in Ethiopia.

The Ethiopian delegation, headed by Ethiopian Minister for Women, Children and Youth Affairs Zenebu Tadesse, expressed interest in Kudumbasree and other women’s empowerment programmes of the State and reservation for women in local self government institutions during discussions she had with the Chief Minister at his office.

Ms. Tadesse said that Kerala was a model in women’s empowerment. She also expressed interest in agriculture, education and information technology sectors in Kerala. Ethopia welcomed investment in coffee and sugarcane development, she said.

Besides the Minister, the Ethiopian delegation had women officials and people’s representatives of Ethiopia as members.
