Union Government should enact a new legislation ensuring the people their `right to health’ and this is what the country dreams about, said Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy.
Mr Chandy was inaugurating the newly constructed modern Cardiac Centre at the Thiruvalla Medical Mission Hospital in Thiruvalla on Tuesday afternoon.
The Chief Minister said the Government mission is to provide all kinds of treatment facility to all the people free of cost. However, a legislation making healthcare the right of every Indian citizen was a must to materialise this revolutionary idea, he said.
Mr Chandy said active co-operation of private hospitals was a major pre-requisite for the success of the Government mission to extend better healthcare facility to the common people.
According to him, the private sector has to play a key role in improving the healthcare in the State. Mr Chandy lauded the seven decade long healthcare service of Thiruvalla Medical Mission.
Col (Rtd) Alex Verghese, hospital managing committee chairman, presided over the function.
Anto Antony, MP, inaugurated the CT Scan unit on the occasion. Mathew T. Thomas, C.F. Thomas, both MLAs; Mathew Chacko, and P.C. Cherian, medical superintendent, also spoke.
