Malayalam actor, director Venu Nagavally dead

Noted Malayalam film-maker and actor Venu Nagavally died at a private hospital here early on Thursday morning. He was 61.

Mr. Venu, son of the late playwright and actor Nagavally R.S.Kurup, had donned significant roles in 35 films, written and directed 12 films and wrote the screenplay of Kilukkom directed by Priyadarshan.

He is survived by wife and a son.

The body of Mr.Venu was brought to his residence at Kowdiyar. People from different walks of life offered tributes at his residence. The cremation will be held at Santhikavadom in the evening after being taken to VJT Hall.

Mr. Venu started his career as announcer in All India Radio and then moved on to cinema through Ulkkadal directed by K.G.George. Since then he became a prominent presence in the industry and became director through Sukhamo Devi in 1985. His last performance as actor was in Bhagadevatha directed by Sathyan Anthikkad.

Bharya Swantham Suhruthu released in 2009 was his last directorial venture.
