Mohammed Koya awards presented

The C.H. Mohammed Koya Journalism Awards - 2011 were presented by Maharashtra Governor K. Sankaranarayanan to J. Gopikrishnan and N.P. Rajendran at a function held at the Tagore Centenary Hall here on Saturday.

The award for Karan Thapar, who could not attend the award ceremony, would be presented later.

The contributions made by Mr. Thapar; Mr. Gopikrishnan, a senior journalist with The Pioneer who shot to fame with his exposes on 2G scam; and Mr. Rajendran, who writes a popular political column in Mathrubhumi daily earned them the awards.

P.A. Ibrahim Haji, chairman of the C.H. Mohammed Koya Journalism Award Trust; M.K. Muneer, Minister for Social Welfare and trustee; DCC president K.C. Abdu; IUML district president Ummer Pandikasala; Sudheendrakumar, president, Calicut Press Club; and C. Vinod Chandran, secretary, Calicut Press Club, spoke.

The C.H. Mohammed Koya Award is instituted by the C.H. Mohammed Koya Foundation in association with the Calicut Press Club in memory of the former Chief Minister.

NDTV Group editor Barkha Dutt, Malayalam journalist S. Jayachandran Nair, CNN-IBN editor-in-chief Rajdeep Sardesai, T.J.S. George, editorial adviser, The New Indian Express , and Left political analyst Praful Bidwai had won the award earlier.
