Price rise affects State’s normal life: CPI(M)

Soaring price of essential commodities has been affecting normal life of the common people of Kerala ever since the Congress(I)-led United Democratic Front assumed power 15 months ago, alleged Baby John, Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretariat member.

Mr John was inaugurating the siege laid by the CPI(M) workers to the Collectorate here, protesting against the price rise, on Wednesday.

He alleged that the UDF Government was implementing the neo-liberal policies of the Congress(I)-led United Democratic Alliance Government at the Centre in letter and spirit, leaving the hapless common man at the receiving end.

Mr John alleged that the UDF Government was undoing whatever people-friendly measures implemented by the previous Left Democratic Front Government.

The pro-rich policies of the both the Union and State Governments have made life miserable to the common man, he alleged.

The decision to replace the existing pension scheme with contributory pension scheme would ultimately make the State Civil Service unattractive, taking the Government employees and teachers to the agitation front, he alleged.

Mr John alleged that total anarchy prevailed in the State and the law and order maintenance has become a big flop.

The Chandy Government has been misusing the police in a futile attempt to destroy the CPI(M), he alleged.

K. Ananthagopan, CPI(M) district secretary, presided the inaugural meet.

Raju Abraham, MLA, R. Unnikrishna Pillai, CPI(M) state committee member; P.J. Ajyakumar, CITU district president; Prof T.K.G. Nair, organizing committee chairman; V.K. Purushothaman Pillai, secretary; G. Krishnakumar, DYFI district secretary; Omallor Sankaran, Karshaka Snghom district secretary, and Mahila Association district secretary, S. Subhaga, also spoke.

The siege began at 6 am and it came to close at 5 pm, badly affecting the functioning of various Government offices at the Collectorate on Wednesday.
