International Nurses Day was observed in different parts of the district on Saturday.
The National Nurses’ Week celebrations in the district that began on May 6 came to a close on May 12, birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale who is regarded as the founder of modern nursing.
Nurses took out colourful rallies and meetings in different parts of the district on Saturday. Mr K.Sivadasan Nair, MLA, inaugurated the Nurses Day celebrations in Pathanamthitta in the forenoon.
Dr Laila Divakar, District Medical Officer, flagged off the rally from the General Hospital premises and Ms Ambikamma, principal of NSS Nursing School at Pandalam, hoisted the ceremonial flag. Pazhakulam Madhu, District anchayat member, also spoke.
Ms Valsamma Chacko,principal of Government Nursing School at Elanthoor, led the Nurses’ Pledge and Mr N.Mohammed Mustafa, delivered the valedictory message.
At Pushpagiri
Mr Anto Antony, MP, inaugurated the Nursing Day celebrations at Pushpagiri Medical College on Saturday .
The MP expressed the hope of reaching a permanent solution for various problems facing the nursing sector soon.
Dr Youhanon Mar Chrysostomos, Bishop of the Pathanamthitta diocese of the Malankara Catholic Church, delivered the benedictory speech. Dr John Abraham, PMC principal, delivered the keynote address and Fr Renjith Madhathipparampil, PMC director, presided the meeting.
Sr Annie Koshy, and Sr Judy, nursing superintendent at PMC, also spoke.
