Man’s greed and selfishness was the root cause of all environmental problems facing the world today, said Moran Mor Baselius Mar Thoma Paulose-II, Malankara Metropolitan and Catholicos of the East.

The Catholicos was inaugurating the valedictory function of the three-day international conference on `religious response to ecological challenges’, organised by the Nilackal St Thomas Church and Ecumenical Centre Trust, at the Ecumenical Centre at Angamoozhi on Thursday.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr Joseph Mar Thoma, Metropolitan of Mar Thoma Church, said the proposed interlinking of rivers would lead to more environmental issues.

Separate sessions on `green theology’ and waste management, were held on Friday forenoon.

Dr Mathew Koshy Punnackadu, Ecological Commission of Nilackal Trust secretary; Fr Ignatius George Kadiyamkunnil, Nilackal Ecumenical Centre administrator, and Ms Helen Fox from South Africa, also addressed the valedictory meet.
