The annual Pooram festival at the centuries’ old Edappavoor Bhagavathy Temple near Ranni was held with religious fervour on Wednesday.
Hundreds of devotees thronged the small village of Edappavoor situated on the banks of river Pampa to witness the annual ritualistic ceremony.
The presiding deity at the Bhadrakaali shrine was taken out in a decorated palanquin-type carriage (Jeevitha) to the adjoining temple dedicated to Goddess Durga in a ceremonial procession (Ezhunnellathu)
in the forenoon.
The rituals began with the auspicious Ganaati homom followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the temple devaswom president, P.G.Vikrama Kaimal, in the morning.
The procession, popularly known as `Jeevitha Ezhunnellathu’, was taken out with the accompaniments of Vanchippattu, Panchavadyam, Ammankudom-thullal and Pamba-melom.
The annual festival at the Bhagavathy temple will come to a close with the Aratt ceremony to be held at the Mahadevar temple ghats in river Pampa at Peroor in the early morning hours of Thursday.
